Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) comprising the first 44 amino acids of endogenous GHRH with a modification that stabilises it against enzymatic degradation, extending its half-life to approximately 30 minutes.
Unlike exogenous growth hormone, tesamorelin stimulates the pituitary to release growth hormone in a physiological, pulsatile pattern, preserving natural feedback mechanisms. Clinical research has examined its effects on visceral adipose tissue, with multiple randomised placebo-controlled trials demonstrating statistically significant reductions measured by CT scan.
The compound is widely used in research on body composition, lipolysis, and the somatotropic axis in the context of metabolic studies.
